outfit: cinnamon girl

Outfit Details:

This is so way overdue - I took these pictures back around St. Patrick's Day! Embracing some Irish colors and long wavy hair, I felt amazing in this outfit!

This skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing is amazing! There is just one size left, but it's on crazy sale, and I can't say enough about how amazing I feel when I wear it.  It runs a little big in the waist, but with my vintage belt, I'm obsessed! I am sure you will see this in future blogs to come. In this case I paired  it with a sweater from Forever 21 and some Chelsea Crew flats I purchased on Zulily, making the ensemble extremely affordable.

outfit: mustard and maroon

Outfit Details:

The best thing about being a Disneyland Annual Passholder (and living less than an hour away from the park) is after a long, exhausting week of juggling my many jobs, I can drive down for a twilight hour stroll through Disney California Adventure without the pressure to really get much done but enjoying the decor.
As far as the outfit goes, I am a huge fan of midi-length skirts, and this one from Modcloth is a go-to for being easy to wear and for being such a gorgeous color.  Paired with this maroon floral Modcloth top I got on sale at the end of last season, I was pretty happy with how the fall color palette of this outfit came out.  And I am not sure if it's a bad thing, but I have been living in this Smashbox Matte Liquid Lipstick in the color Miss Conduct. First of all, it makes me feel beautiful, and second of all, it really takes any outfit I wear into a vintage autumn vibe.

On a last note, if you have a chance to catch the new Halloween decorations at California Adventure, i can't recommend it enough.  Carsland especially is so well done, so meticulously detailed and fun!

outfit: autumn gingham

dress (as skirt) - trashy diva honey sun dress, top - forever21, shoes - american eagle outfitters (old)

Despite the fact that weather in sunny southern California hasn't really gotten the memo, I have fully embraced the autumn season.  So, last week I met my good friend Kellen in his hometown of Moorpark at the Fall Harvest Festival at Underwood Family Farms to enjoy some fall-time fun.  It was kind of like stepping back in time to small-town USA - kids running around, a giant pumpkin patch, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and farmland all around us.  I do believe my vintage aesthetic fit right in here, especially with the black gingham print I picked out!

One of my favorite ways to get more versatility out of my wardrobe is to wear my dresses as a skirt by pairing it with a cute top.  In this case, I paired my TD Honey Sun Dress with a green button-down shirt from Forever21 tied at the waist, to create this vintage inspired look.  The way the skirt on this dress flows makes me feel like I have stepped right out of a movie - every item I have from the brand Trashy Diva is so well made!

I completed the look with some simple flats, dark lips, and an orange flower (duh!), and then spent the afternoon gorging myself on kettle corn and enjoying the fair.  Incidentally I didn't end up purchasing a pumpkin, so there may be another pumpkin patch post later this month. :)

outfit: white after labor day

dress - unique vintage (similar here), necklace - the giving keys, lipstick - smashbox liquid lipstick in miss conduct
Here I am, a vintage hummingbird in the relatively young stage of her style blogging career, and already I am breaking one of the seminal rules of fashion - you should never wear white after labor day.  Well, whoever made that rule didn't pair their white with dark lips and pumpkins.

I am IN LOVE with this Unique Vintage dress that I just picked up at their Pin Up Picnic Sale last weekend for the unbelievable price of $15!  (You can find almost the exact same one here). It fits and feels like a dream, and with some Smashbox liquid lipstick in the color Miss Conduct, I felt completely in the autumn spirit walking around the HalloweenTime at the happiest place on earth!

How do you wear your whites after labor day?

adventure: ticket to the 20s

And I am back! I really needed the month of September off of blogging, but now I am so excited to jump into it. Mondays and Thursdays you can expect a new post on vintage style, beauty, dance, disney, travel, and the like!

For my first post back, let's go back in time with a Ticket to the Twenties!  One of the best things about being a member of the Hollywood Hotshots is the incredible events we get to be a part of.  For this, we stepped back in time to the 1920s, spending the day teaching 1920s dance lessons, enjoying the vintage cars, performing, and social dancing to the musical stylings of the California Feetwarmers.  Here's a little clip!

Plus, I felt beautiful in this stunning dress from Loco Lindo, alongside my other hotshot ladies! While I love dressing in 1920s beaded flapper dresses, this floral day dress is so lovely and easy to wear and dance in.  A little pin-curl in the front of my hair and some red lips, and a daytime 1920s picnic came to life!

A special thanks to one of my favorite photographers ever, @stevek_photo for the two stunning pictures of me and my dance partner Blake!

adventure: camp hollywood 2017

Sorry for the weeklong absence from the blog! I was in recovery mode from the wonderful adventure over Labor Day weekend at the National Jitterbug Championships at Camp Hollywood.  Camp Hollywood is one my favorite swing dance weekends of the year - amazing music, competitions, dancers from all over the world, and a joyous time of celebrating as a community!

For those of you who have never experienced a swing dance weekend, each day basically goes like this: classes in the mornings from 10am-3pm, then competitions from 3pm-6pm, a break for dinner and then social dancing, more competitions, and partying from 9pm-6am!  Then you crash for a few hours, wake up, and do it again! My friends and I decided to skip classes this year to use that time to catch up on sleep, lounge by the pool, and socialize some more.

In the pictures above, you can catch a couple shots of me competing, which as you can tell from my expression is a complete bore to me. *ahem*

Of course, I am kidding.  As these are the National Jitterbug Championships, people travel from all over the world (including Sweden, France, even South Korea) to compete, so the competition is pretty fierce.  Even so, my incredible partner (and great friend) Juan and I made finals in the Classic division and alternates for the Strictly Lindy division.  Translating that into non-dancer speak, the Strictly Lindy division is the fast moving, aerial-filled dancing that you probably think of when you think of swing, and the Classic division is to medium-tempo music and is more about style and musicality rather than flash.  I felt really proud of how we performed, and had a ton of fun to boot! I always leave Camp Hollywood inspired and ready to work even harder for the next year!

And while the competitions are a huge part of the weekend, the best part is seeing friends from out of town, hanging out, and being silly!

A huge thank you to everyone who made it a Camp Hollywood to remember!  Back to regular scheduled programming on Thursday! ;)

outfit: the summer/autumn transition

sweater - thrifted/eBay, jeans - modcloth, shoes - b.a.i.t. footwear

I put that last picture in not only to show the shoes, but also to remind everyone that I am a complete spazz.  @keeganmullin, my best friend and photographer for the blog, does a great job of capturing some beautiful pictures of me, but he can never fully escape the fact I am definitely a dweeb-y hummingbird.

Ok, now some thoughts behind this outfit.  Autumn is my favorite time of year - the colors, the food, the weather getting colder, the feeling that the magic of the holiday season is soon approaching.  Unfortunately we still have a bit more time before fall hits, despite what the stores already pushing Halloween products want to you think.  So this sweater is the perfect transitional item - short sleeves and not too heavy.  Paired with my high-waisted capri jeans from modcloth and some adorable mint oxfords from b.a.i.t. footwear, I gave it a 1950s flair, and it's a pretty effortless look!
